How to Have An Equestrian Wedding

I am finally engaged and planning a wedding! I explored many wedding themes, including the equestrian theme. I decided against a theme that was 100% equestrian theme but in the process I did find some great ideas.

One of the first places to start, the invites!

Obviously if you have an equestrian themed wedding you more then likely are having a wedding outside in a farm setting or even in a barn. Just clean up the barn real nice and be somewhat sensitive to guests with horse or hay allergies.

Some equestrian decorations for touch.

And of course if you choose to have your horsey friends there...

So you want to ride your horse into the wedding? Consider this: IT MAY LOOK A LOT BETTER IN YOUR HEAD THEN IT DOES IN PERSON. Here are some DONT'S for riding in the wedding...

No Pony Rides Down the Aisle: If you cannot ride your horse down the aisle without someone leading you then you probably do not need to be riding your horse in the wedding. I mean look at this video of the adult pony ride, it just looks pathetic.

Just Get There: If you choose to gallop in, just get there! Do not make it some long gallop where people are staring at you for minutes before you arrive, it ruins the excitement and also leaves more time to screw it all up. And when you do get there, get off! Do not parade around like a circus pony. Also avoid waving frantically, we saw you coming!

Your horse can easily ruin your wedding more easily then any family member could. Think runaway horse, trampling guests, or taking a poop as you are walking down the aisle.

This girl's horse spooked and ran, not to mention it was also a pony ride. So many things wrong here.

The more horses you have, the more risks you take:  The more horses you have the increased chances for a horse mishap. Even the Royal Wedding of the Century had a loose horse. They probably have some of the best behaved horses in the world and the entire wedding was practiced and arranged by top professionals. You won't have that. So, if they can have a loose horse, you could too!

Do not get all princess on us with the wedding carriage: Do not over decorate the wedding carriage, it just looks tacky!

If you really really want your horse at the wedding here are some DOs!

Keep your horse in the stall. Your horse is contained and no one is able to run away and trample guests or the cake. Not too mention if you horse has to take a poop it's not just out there in the open. Having poop at your wedding is not glamorous.

Keep your horse in a nearby field. It is elegant to have horses in the background and safest away from guests. Not too mention if they are munching on grass they are probably comfortable and less likely to make a "scene."

Stay simple with your wedding carriage. Simple is always classy, try to avoid over decorating it.

A few braids, a few flowers, or ribbons will link your horse to the wedding. Think how can I add a wedding touch to my horse. Do not place the horse in a costume.

Show Shirt Shopping

I am actually going to a real show this winter, finally! After years of owning project horses it finally has paid off. Milo is actually going to go to a real show, the National Western Stock Show in Denver, CO. A less expensive 'A' show indoors. The indoor arena will be a challenge for spooky Milo, but what worries me more? Not having anything to wear!

My show clothes are terribly out of date and everything is blue. I am so sick of blue, not only are all my clothes blue but everyone else is wearing blue. Ideally, I wish I could wear a light green with brown. I have been shopping and shopping online and it is terrible hard to find anything that is not blue! I managed to find some, here we go...

Okay, this is technically navy blue but what I like about it is it is not your normal shirt. The Animo Babila shirt is a little more hip. $109. Buy Here.
The Animo Bang shirt is also adorable with black and white stripes. Buy Here.

I really like the red Animo shirt with flowers. Dover sells them for $209, buy here.
Essex show shirt with green collar, finally...green! $109 Buy here.

Essex in pink $99.99 Buy Here.

Beacon Hill shirts come in many different stripes including a blue/green stripe and a rainbow stripe which I love. $84.00 Buy Here
Horseware Competition shirt gives a tuxedo look. Already bought it, only $50. It's good as a backup shirt if it isn't 100% your style. Buy Here.

Kingsland Show Shirt on ebay for $45.

Kingsland Equestrian Venice Ruffle front show shirt

Cool Blast riding show shirt by Riding Sport $49 on sale at Dover! $49! Comes in teal, blue, pink, and white. Look how much fun she is having in it! UV protection too.

Goode Rider Regal Show shirt $77 at Dover. Very pretty.

Paget, say it ain't so! Clifton Promise tested positive for illegal substances?!

Depressing news I found this morning, that Clifton Promise, a three-day horse ridden by Jock Paget, has tested positive for a strong tranquilizer called Reserpine.

I was cheering for these two to win the Rolex Grand Slam this year, after their back to back wins at Burghley horse trials and Badminton horse trials. Clifton Promise will be banned for 2 months from competition pending the "B" sample. FEI will take the "B" sample for assurance on their decision, if this tests positive as well it is likely they will be suspended. Read more here.

To read more about their previous wins that they may have just blown (sad face) check out my previous September post.

"I am going to need some of that coffee if you are doing to be sedating me." Pretty sure Clifton Promise said that.

A Successful Weekend At The Colorado Horse Park

Early Sunday morning a friend and I heading down to the Colorado Horse Park in Parker, CO to watch our friends ride cross country in the Colorado Horse Park Fall Horse Trials which also include Region 9 USEA Championships!

A friend on her beautiful horse went Intermediate, her horse's first time. The horse had two refusals caused by a confusing flag incident in a combination, but finished strong in the cross country. Personally, I thought it was a perfect and successful ride for the horse's first Intermediate! My vet took second in Open Training with a clean and flawless cross country. The most exciting ride for me to watch was my friend, Angelika ride a clean cross country on her new horse! Her horse is the cutest (want to steal it) little 15.3H Swedish warmblood who was all knees jumping. She took first place in the Region 9 Training Championships! The second best thing to horse showing yourself is watching friends successfully horse show instead. I am really happy for all of them.

I would not consider myself really into eventing compared to other things like show jumping, but it is so easy to be involved in eventing compared to other equestrian disciplines. The scoring system is easy to follow, it's kind of like a football game...you know who is in the lead but there is still that unpredictability of the last quarter or in eventing the last discipline as to who is going to win. The online, live scoring is so fun to keep track of on Event Entries.
